What is the programme structure?

New Learners will be taught techniques with clay and glazing to produce their own ceramics no previous experience is required. For the more experienced there is the opportunity to develop and work on your own projects.
Pieces produced at College during the course will only be fired in the kiln.

Who is the programme for?

Beginners and Improvers. Both levels work alongside each other.

How long does it take to complete?
The course runs for 2.5 hours per week for either 7 or 8 weeks depending on which day.

What qualifications do I need?

No previous qualifications required.

What does it include?

The programme includes group and one to one tuition. The aim of the course is to develop a level of competence in all the basic techniques used with clay such as the pinched and coil methods and glazing using a variety of techniques.

Are there any special facilities for the programme?
The course is held in the Art & Design Block which has a good range of facilities including a number of electric wheels, kilns and a glaze room. Old clothing should be worn. Please bring a plastic apron.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

There is a charge for materials such as the clay and glazes payable at enrolment.
Please contact the Community Education Team for details of latest programme fees and times and dates of programmes. You may be entitled to remission of fees if you are in receipt of means tested benefits.

Tutor assessment. No formal exam.
