What is the programme structure?
You will need to successfully complete the following units of study to achieve the qualification: Counselling skills and personal development, using counselling skills, introduction to counselling theories, diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills. The aim of this qualification is to enhance and improve your verbal and written skills, provide a basic understanding of what counselling is about, as well developing your confidence, self-esteem in terms of personal growth and pursuing further opportunities within academic study.
Who is the programme for?
The programme is for those who wish to pursue a career in the health and social care profession. This certificate of study develops and introduces you to counselling skills, counselling theories, ethics and diversity. You should be made aware that this level of qualification will not give you the necessary qualification to become a counsellor; this will require further study on higher-level courses.
How long does it take to complete?
1 year, 4 hours per week

No formal academic requirements are needed, but references and a personal statement and attendance to an interview are required.

This programme will be assessed by a combination of methods e.g. written assignments, role-play, group discussions, and peer and tutor observations

Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
What can I do next?
This will then allow you to look at progression opportunities, such as level 3 counselling programmes. Learners may also seek employment that uses the skills learnt from the course, e.g. youth mentor, support work. Furthermore this course maybe an ideal enhancement to your current area of employment. Please note that successful completion of this course does not provide an automatic entry on higher level counselling programmes.
