What is the programme structure?

Students have the opportunity to work in the specialist accommodation in the Centre for Creative Arts and Sport at the Hartford Campus, which provides the highest levels of education and training, tailored to the needs of industry. This course incorporates educational visits to galleries, exhibitions, industry events and foreign residential trips, the most recent of which have included Paris, Berlin and New York.

Who is the programme for?

This course incorporates educational visits to galleries, exhibitions, industry events and foreign residential trips, the most recent of which have included Paris, Berlin and New York.

Students experience an experimental and creative environment in which to produce their work. A wide spectrum of approaches is encouraged through various forms of subject matter including documentary, conceptual, portraiture and studio-based work. Students are encouraged to develop their own personal style and are helped by a team dedicated to the highest standards
of practice.

The underlying principle of the course is that all images are produced with thought as to their context and capacity to communicate to an audience.

How long does it take to complete?
2 years full-time (2 days a week).

What qualifications do I need?

UCAS Points Required: 80 points from Level 3 qualifications
For example: A levels; BTEC Extended Diploma; Access to HE Diploma; NVQ3

In addition, GCSE English at Grade 4/5 or C equivalent is desired or be willing to work towards this qualification.

Students who do not meet the admissions requirements will be considered for entry if they can demonstrate that they have the relevant vocational experience, motivation and personal qualities appropriate for this course.

Students may need to purchase text books, film, photo paper and other photographic related equipment.

How is the programme assessed?
This programme will be tutor-assessed by a combination of methods, e.g. portfolio including visual artwork, research projects, reports and presentations. Formal assessments are moderated by the University of Chester. There are no formal exams.

What can I do next?

Key progression pathways from this industry recognised qualification are:

• Entry onto the second or third year of a Degree or Honours Degree programme (depending on the match of the Edexcel BTEC Higher National units to the Degree programme in question).

• Entry to employment into the photographic industry in roles such as photographic assistants, advertising, fashion, medical, press, sport and wedding photographers.

All applicants wishing to apply for a Higher Education course at Mid Cheshire College must apply through UCAS – see the link below for help with the application process. Although the deadline is 15th January, we will consider late applications but advise applying by the end of April.

The only exception to this is for those applying for the employer-sponsored HNC/HND Engineering, who can complete the 19+ Application Form which can be downloaded here.
