What is the programme structure?
This is a QCF qualification. Learners will need to undertake the following mandatory units: Structure of the construction industry; Fundamental safe working practices; Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings; Site preparation for working in the construction industry; Fabrication techniques for electrical installation; Electrical science and technology. This qualification enables you to develop craft and hand-skills before progressing into further learning within Electrotechnical. All of the units develop you practical skills and enable you to demonstrate your ability to complete common tasks within the industry. This is a standalone qualification and is suitable for anyone aged 16 and over.
Who is the programme for?
You will take this Level 1 Diploma if you have no previous experience within the Electrontechnical sector. This level is ideal if you're just starting out and want a good basic understanding of the Electrical industry. learners will have the opportunity on completion to progress onto the next level of vocation learning within the Electrontechnical sector.

4 GCSEs at grade D or above or equivalent. Preferabley the GCSEs should include Maths.
What does it include?
This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.
The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.
The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 1 will be the development of occupational skills in a selected vocational area and the development of personal, social and employability skills with a view to raising aspirations.
As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English or maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.
Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
The College has specially equipped Electrical Laboratories and workshops for students to work in.
Will there be any extra costs involved?
Students will need to provide steel toecap footwear. Additional costs are charged to cover visits, industry standard text books and other equipment; these remain the property of the student.
How is the programme assessed?
This is through assignments, external examinations, portfolio of written work and practical assessments.
What award will I achieve?
City & Guilds 2330 (level 1)

What can I do next?
This programme is designed prepare you for employment as a trainee electrician or apprenticeship. Alternatively, you could progress on to the BTEC Level 2 Electrical Installation.
