What is the programme structure?

The course covers all aspects of the performing arts industry. The department’s specialist staff and facilities will help you to improve your performance skills. In addition to this, you will develop both your acting and dance skills. The course is ideally suited to someone who is unsure of which career path to take or for someone who wants to develop their skills before progressing on to an Extended Diploma.

Units include: performing dance, jazz dance, acting, understanding drama, production process and performing arts business. Students are also encouraged to gain representation from North West agents and employment in the industry while still on the course. At the end of the course you will use all of your skills to stage a major performance project.

Who is the programme for?

Students who have a strong interest in both dance and drama and they want to progress to level three courses, like the Extended Diploma in Dance Acting or Musical Theatre, or are aiming to work professionally in this field. This will give them a good background in varying fields and strengthen their knowledge in these areas ready for their level three courses.

What qualifications do I need?

4 GCSEs at grade D or above or equivalent. You will also be required to attend an audition.

What does it include?

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 2 will be the development of occupational skills in a selected vocational area and the development of personal, social and employability skills with a view to raising aspirations.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Are there any special facilities for the programme?
Dance studio, stage area and performance space.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

Appropriate dress, including footwear, will be required. Plus students are invited on residential and various theatre trips which are optional, costs of these will be advised as and when they arise by your Course Leader. Dance and singing qualifications carry additional charges and you may wish to purchase your own text books.

How is the programme assessed?
There will be continuous assessment of both practical and academic projects.
