What is the programme structure?

The course is made up of three core units and four specialist units, which include both practical and theory sessions. You will study public service skills, physical fitness; teamwork; map reading and navigation and employment opportunities within the uniformed services. Team events and adventure activities are part of the course along with numeracy, IT and literacy skill development. A residential component is also included.

Who is the programme for?

For those students interested in a career in Public Services e.g. Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Police, Fire Service or Ambulance Service, either at the end of the one-year course or after a further period of study.

What qualifications do I need?

4 GCSEs at grade D or above or equivalent.

What does it include?

The Study Programme aims to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The study programme includes GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education, plus tutorial and enrichment.

Work Placement
As part of you course you will be expected to achieve at least one full week of work placement, this help you get a full insight into the industry in which you our studying.

Are there any special facilities for the programme?
The facilities include a gym.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

Students are required to purchase a uniform at a cost of approximately £100. A fee of up to £75 is required for practical activities and trips.

How is the programme assessed?
Assessment is through a combination of practical assessments, assignments, projects and coursework forming a portfolio of evidence.
