What is the programme structure?

The programme will help you to understand how computers work and gain confidence in setting up a computer system.
Appreciate why computers are used in nearly all businesses, and identify what types of IT-related jobs have been created.
Build good study skills if you wish to continue with your studies. This course will introduce you to computer software and hardware and how users and businesses use computers to satisfy their requirements. A wide range of options are available on this course, the units delivered are dependent on student numbers and demand. For example, you will use a variety of industry-standard software to create IT solutions including web development, Digital Portfolio, Computer Graphics and Animation. More technical options will cover software installation and hardware support and networking.

Who is the programme for?

For those students who have an interest in ICT/Computing and wish to develop ICT/ Computing skills with a view to working in the IT industry. Alternatively it can be used to broaden skills whilst keeping career options open. IT skills are required in many jobs.

What does it include?

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 2 will be the development of occupational skills in a selected vocational area and the development of personal, social and employability skills with a view to raising aspirations.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

You will use specially equipped IT suites.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

There may be additional costs for textbooks. Trips and visits money is collected at enrolment.

How is the programme assessed?
There will be continuous assessment through practical and written assignments.

What can I do next?

You will be able to progress onto the BTEC Extended Diploma for IT Software/Technicians or another Level 3 course. Alternatively, you may wish to consider employment at trainee level within a range of ICT areas.
