What is the programme structure?
This course provides an indepth study of the motor industry including practical and theory in the following areas: Working safely and effectively, foundation skills, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems, operating principles of engines, operating principles and maintenance of transmission systems, operating principles of electrical and electronic systems.

This programme is for students who wish to pursue a career in the Motor Vehicle Industry.

Level 1 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
What does it include?
This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.
The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.
The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 2 will be the development of occupational skills in a selected vocational area and the development of personal, social and employability skills with a view to raising aspirations.
As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.
Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
The College has specialist motor vehicle workshops.
Will there be any extra costs involved?
There will be additional costs for text books, and you will be expected to provide your own overalls and protective footwear.
How is the programme assessed?
Most of your time will be spent in the workshops and there may also be work experience at a garage. The practical element of the course is continuously assessed in College and on work experience. The theory is also continuously assessed.
What award will I achieve?
Institute of the Motor Industry Technical Certificate Level 2 in vehicle maintenance and repair
Institute of the Motor Industry.
What can I do next?
This programme is designed to enable you to progress on to a third year, where you will gain the Institute of the Motor Industry Technical Certificate at Level 3. Alternatively, you may wish to consider an Apprenticeship or employment in the motor industry, where you will be able to do NVQ at level 2 or 3.
