What is the programme structure?
This course is theory based with practical elements in a variety of units. All students will study the following areas:
• Anatomy for sport and exercise
• Sports Nutrition
• Practical Team Sports
• Sport & Exercise Psychology
• Sport & Exercise Physiology
• Research Methods for sport & exercise
• Exercise, Health & Lifestyle
• Fitness Testing
• Training & Programming
Who is the programme for?
Students who are interested in working in sport: teaching, coaching, sports development or sports therapy.
How long does it take to complete?
1 year, 4 days a week
What qualifications do I need?
4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent, Grade C in GCSE English to be included in the 4 or an additional years study at Level 2 will be required
What does it include?
The Study Programme aims to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The study programme includes GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education, plus tutorial and enrichment
As part of you course, you will be expected to achieve at least one full week of work placement, this will help you get a full insight into the industry in which you are studying.
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
Specialist Fitness Suite, Sports Hall and Sports Laboratory equipped with Elite standard performance analysis and fitness testing equipment.
Will there be any extra costs involved?
You will be expected to purchase the college practical kit package at a special price for students studying on all sports related courses (approximately £30). Textbooks and additional stationery materials will be required. Trips and residentials may be organised - more details can be provided during the interview.
How is the programme assessed?
Continuous assessment through projects, assignments, presentations & observations. The final assessment is based on a portfolio which you will produce over the year.

What can I do next?
Upon successful completion students will be able to progress onto the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences.
