What is the programme structure?
You will study 10 units at a total of 90 credits during the year. The course is theory based with practical elements in a variety of areas. All students will study the following units: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Physiology of Sport, The Athlete’s Lifestyle, Psychology for Sports Performance, Fitness Training and Programming, Analysis of Sports Performance, Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport, Fitness Testing, Sports Nutrition, Exercise, and Health & Lifestyle.
Who is the programme for?
Students who wish to enhance their knowledge of factors affecting performance levels in sport, whilst combining their studies with the College’s Football Development Programme. There will be more focus on the athlete, and the knowledge gained would also benefit your own performance.
How long does it take to complete?
1 year, 4 days a week
What qualifications do I need?
4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent, Grade C in GCSE English to be included in the 4 or an additional years study at Level 2 will be required.
What does it include?
This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment. As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and Maths development as part of the core qualification. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which will include work experience and projects.
As part of you course, you will be expected to achieve at least one full week of work placement, this helps you get a full insight into the industry in which you are studying.
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
Access to a Fitness Suite, Sports Hall and Sport Laboratory equipped with Elite standard performance analysis and fitness testing equipment. Football training will be held on the 3G pitch at Cheshire FA.
Will there be any extra costs involved?
You will be expected to purchase the college Football Development kit package (approximately £130), there is also a course fee (approximately £110) towards officials, away match travel and training facilities. Textbooks and additional stationary materials will be required. Trips and residentials may be organised – more details can be provided during interview.
How is the programme assessed?
Continuous assessment through projects, assignments, practical observations and presentations.

What can I do next?
You will be able to progress onto the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence) for a further year.
