Increasing specialism in chosen areas with tutorial discussion and support regarding career progression.

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design provides in-depth knowledge from a wide selection of areas in the creative field. The qualification builds and develops the necessary skills, techniques and attitudes to begin a successful professional career or move onto further study. It gives an understanding of the employment opportunities available in the art and design world so that you can progress into a specific area of work, and if already in employment, move onto a more responsible job or prominent position within the industry. The course structure can allow the qualification to be flexible to meet learners interests, abilities and aspirations.

Who is the programme for?

Students who do not want to follow academic ‘A’ levels but still want to work towards achieving the equivalent of 3 ‘A’ level qualifications leading towards a career or a higher education course in art at university. University courses and careers in art and design are many and varied. It is sometimes difficult to make a decision to specialise straight away from school, without knowing more about the possible HE courses or careers that are available to you. Not only is the course designed to help you decide which area of art and design will be most suitable to you for HE and career’s, but also to build on your previous experience and develop your skills in a full range of art and design subjects.

How long does it take to complete?
2 years.

What qualifications do I need?

4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent.
You will also be expected to present a satisfactory portfolio.

What does it include?

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.
