What is the programme structure?

Students will study the followings units:

• Apply Airbrush Make-Up to the face
• Camouflage Make-Up
• Fashion and Photographic Make-Up
• Media Make-Up
• Health and Safety
• Style and fit postiche (wigs)
• Client care and communication
• Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps
• Fantasy hair design for performers
• Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
• Design and apply face and body art
• Production arts planning
• Apply individual permanent lashes




Who is the programme for?

For students who have completed a level 2 or 3 qualification in either Hair or Beauty. All students must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, a high level of manual dexterity and portray excellent standards of professionalism.

How long does it take to complete?
One academic year from September to July.

What qualifications do I need?

Successful completion of a Level 2 or 3 qualification in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.

What does it include?

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.

The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.

The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment.

As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.

Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.

Are there any special facilities for the programme?
Practical assessments will take place in our specially equipped salons.

Will there be any extra costs involved?

Appropriate dress, including footwear, will be required. Learners will have the opportunity to purchase or loan equipment and text books as per the specific requirements of the course area. Optional workshops / educational visits / practical activities are charged at cost. Learners will also need a specialist kit that costs approx £778

How is the programme assessed?
Assessment is through formal written examinations, practical observation and written assignments. Several hours of homework both written and practical are required each week. All final work must be submitted in a portfolio of evidence.

What award will I achieve?
NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up – on completion of the course the awarding body will issue you with an itemized certificate showing the units you have achieved.

What can I do next?

On successful completion of this course you will be able to progress into employment in television, theatre, model agencies or working with photographers, alternatively you may like to progress on to a Level 4 qualification in Salon Management.
