NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing
What is the programme structure?
Students will study the following units: Give customers a positive impression of yourself, ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety, advise and consult with clients, style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques, cut hair using basic techniques, shampoo and condition hair and scalp and style hair using basic plaiting techniques.
The course will include learning a variety of hairdressing skills in the Colleges Hair Salons, progressing from the VRQ Level 2.
Who is the programme for?
The course is aimed at adult students who have successfully completed VRQ 2 hairdressing and now wish to extend their skills to an advanced level. Excellent technical skills and a high level of motivation are needed for this course.

What does it include?
This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment.
The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study.
The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment.
As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification.
Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which may include work experience and projects.
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
There are commercial facilities which are fully equipped and up to date. This will provide a realistic working environment for you to train in. You will become a valued member of the team and play a vital role within a busy commercial salon environment.
Will there be any extra costs involved?
Appropriate dress, including footwear, will be required. Learners will have the opportunity to purchase or loan equipment and text books as per the specific requirements of the course area. Optional workshops / educational visits / practical activities are charged at cost. These will be advised by the Course Leader as and when they arise.
How is the programme assessed?
Assessment is through formal written examinations, practical observation and written assignments. Several hours of homework, both written and practical, are required each week. All final work must be submitted in a portfolio of evidence.

VTCT- Vocational Training Charitable Trust.
What can I do next?
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to progress on to Foundation Degree in Salon Management or employment in a salon or self-employment.
