What is the programme structure?
This programme includes the following mandatory units: follow Health and Safety practice in the salon; client care and communication in beauty-related industries; provide facial skincare; remove hair using waxing techniques; provide eyelash and eyebrow treatment; provide manicure treatments; provide pedicure treatments. Optional units include salon reception duties, instruction on make-up application .At times, all students will be expected to introduce new clients to the salon in order to help with practical assessments.

This programme is designed for students of school leaving age with a keen interest in working as a Beauty Therapist.

4 GCSEs at grade D or above or equivalent.
What does it include?
The Study Programme aims to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The study programme includes GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education, plus tutorial and enrichment.
As part of you course, you will be expected to achieve at least one full week of work placement, this will help you get a full insight into the industry in which you are studying.
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
3 well-equipped beauty salons fitted with the most up to date equipment. This salon is open to the public from late November to June.
Will there be any extra costs involved?
Appropriate dress, including footwear, will be required. Learners will have the opportunity to purchase or loan equipment and textbooks as per the specific requirements of the course area. Optional workshops / educational visits / practical activities are charged at cost. These will be advised by the Course Leader as and when they arise.
How is the programme assessed?
Assessment is through a formal online and written examinations, practical observation and written assignments. Several hours of homework, both written and practical, are required each week. All final work must be submitted in a portfolio of evidence.

What can I do next?
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to progress onto NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy/Spa or VRQ Level 2 in Hairdressing.
